At Austin Property Services, we are pleased to say we have helped many vendors prepare their home for a sale. The decluttering process is a big part of the sales process, but you don’t need to sell your home to benefit from decluttering.

When you clean and declutter your home, you create space, and you feel better. Many people like to clean to brighten their mood or to allow themselves to think more clearly with fewer distractions. A good decluttering may be exactly what you need right now, and we have tips for you.

Review your home

Now that you have some time, and if you are able to, walk around your home, and look out for any cluttered areas or spaces you are not happy with. You have time to be methodical about this process, so examine every area of the home and prepare yourself for what you have to do.

Devise a plan

When you know what you need to clean and tidy, set a plan into action. Some people will opt to work by room, whereas other people will carry out certain tasks throughout the home before moving on to another.

You want to plan the most effective option for you, so think about your preferences, and what will keep you motivated.

Gather the equipment you need for the decluttering work

You will need equipment to carry out the decluttering process, so think about what you need. This may include boxes, storage boxes, bin bags, cleaning equipment, gloves and much more. By preparing these items before you start the decluttering process, you minimise stoppages when you get started.

Choose a time to start or just start now

There is no time like the present, so if you don’t have any pressing engagements, get started now. Alternatively, if you want to commit to a time when you know you will be able to work without being interrupted, set a time and then stick to it.

Set a timer for certain tasks

If you leave the decluttering project open-ended, it will never be finished. We may have more free time than normal at the moment, but most of us work better with deadlines. Even setting yourself half an hour or an hour will get you started.

Also, when you stop the task at that time, and see what you have achieved, you will be motivated to carry on and do more.

Don’t be overwhelmed

If you have to declutter your entire house, it is likely you will feel overwhelmed by the process. This is why you should focus on smaller tasks and do a little bit to get you started. When you see the difference you are making, it will become easier to continue with the cleaning process.

We know this is a challenging time, and if you have any questions about the housing market or how to present your home right now, please get in touch. At Austin Property Services, we aim to support the local community as much as we can, and we look forward to assisting you again in the future.
