According to Rightmove, house prices in Weymouth are as follows;

Properties in Weymouth had an overall average price of £277,122 over the last year.

The majority of sales in Weymouth during the last year were terraced properties, selling for an average price of £233,950. Detached properties sold for an average of £389,959, with semi-detached properties fetching £288,860.

Overall, sold prices in Weymouth over the last year were 9% up on the previous year and 9% up on the 2018 peak of £254,583.”

Rightmove lists house prices in Portland, as of early August 2021, as follows;

Properties in Portland had an overall average price of £221,111 over the last year.

The majority of sales in Portland during the last year were terraced properties, selling for an average price of £209,661. Detached properties sold for an average of £305,549, with semi-detached properties fetching £233,483.

Overall, sold prices in Portland over the last year were 10% up on the previous year and 11% up on the 2018 peak of £198,809.”

Bridport prices have risen sharply

According to Rightmove at the start of August 2021, house prices in Bridport are as follows;

Properties in Bridport had an overall average price of £327,046 over the last year.

The majority of sales in Bridport during the last year were detached properties, selling for an average price of £429,363. Terraced properties sold for an average of £260,695, with semi-detached properties fetching £318,552.

Overall, sold prices in Bridport over the last year were 20% up on the previous year and 12% up on the 2018 peak of £290,909.”

A rise of 20% in house prices in a year is a significant increase, and an indicator of the demand for property in this area.

Poundbury prices have fallen

For Poundbury, Rightmove states the following about house prices;

Properties in Poundbury had an overall average price of £385,007 over the last year.

The majority of sales in Poundbury during the last year were flats, selling for an average price of £226,447. Terraced properties sold for an average of £464,972, with detached properties fetching £563,912.

Overall, sold prices in Poundbury over the last year were 9% down on the previous year and 2% up on the 2018 peak of £377,332.”

An interesting feature of the property prices listed for Poundbury is that they have fallen compared to last year. This is different from the other local areas, and it stands against what is generally accepted as happening across the country.

Rightmove’s view of the Dorset market is shown below;

Dorset, with an overall average price of £382,460, was similar in terms of sold prices to nearby Bristol (County) (£369,468), but was more expensive than Somerset (£339,742) and Wiltshire (£330,362).

The priciest area within Dorset was Sandbanks (£1,276,890) and the least expensive was Portland (£221,915).”
